About SVMC

Shenandoah Valley Music Camp offers two different week-long summer music experiences designed for students who want to grow as musicians while having lots of fun. Our camps give students the opportunity to go beyond the classroom setting and fully immerse themselves in music through small ensemble playing and hands-on instruction led by experienced music educators. Camp activities are structured to help students improve their instrumental skills, strengthen musical confidence, and develop a deeper understanding of teamwork and leadership through music. This is achieved through meaningful ensemble experiences and expert instruction. We are committed to serving the Shenandoah Valley by expanding access to exceptional musical opportunities in our community.

Our Mission

The mission of Shenandoah Valley Music Camp is to advance music in the valley and to inspire and empower young musicians. We strive to foster musical excellence, personal growth, confidence, and a lifelong love of music in every student we serve. Whether a student is looking to sharpen their fundamentals or take the next step in their musical journey, SVMC provides a place to learn, grow, and succeed. Beyond musical growth, SVMC fosters friendships, creativity, and a sense of belonging. Students leave camp not only as stronger musicians, but with renewed motivation, lasting memories, and excitement to continue music in their school programs and beyond.

Meet the Team

Executive Director

Mitchell Evans

Mitchell is a dedicated music educator with a passion for building strong, engaging programs for young musicians. In 2024, he opened Buffalo Gap Middle School and, within just one year, successfully doubled the size of its band program through innovative instruction and community-focused outreach.

A public school teacher for six years, Mitchell holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from James Madison University and a Master’s degree in Music Education from Eastern Washington University. He previously taught at Lancaster County High School as well as Luray Middle School.

Outside the classroom, Mitchell is an active performer. He plays tuba with the award-winning Massanutten Brass Band and the Valley Wind Ensemble. When he’s not teaching or performing, he enjoys maintaining fish tanks, restoring old instruments, and spending time with friends and family.

Program Director

Jadelyn Talley

Jadelyn Talley is a Shenandoah Valley native and currently serves as the Band Director at Buffalo Gap High School. She is a graduate of James Madison University and holds a degree in Music Education, with a focus in instrumental music. In her time at Buffalo Gap High School, she has inspired a new standard of excellence and dedication in her students. She reestablished the school’s marching band, piloted a new basketball pep band, and started a jazz ensemble after nearly ten years without one. Jadelyn is committed to providing experiences for students that will encourage a lifelong commitment to music and joy of learning.

Outside of teaching, Jadelyn is an active saxophonist, performing regularly with the Valley Winds Ensemble, and in pit orchestras for local musical theater productions. When not making music, most of her free time is spent outdoors; hiking, camping, snowboarding in the winter, or relaxing on the beach in the summer.

Camp Administrator

Josh Holsinger

Josh Holsinger is currently a graduate conducting student at James Madison University. Prior to his current position, he graduated from JMU with his undergraduate in Music Education and taught at local schools in the Shenandoah Valley. He works with multiple high school marching bands in the area and also teaches private tuba lessons. In addition to teaching, he performs with the Valley Wind Ensemble, JMU Brass Band, and Massanutten Brass Band. Holsinger is also on the Board of Directors for the Valley Wind Ensemble as the Librarian and also serves as the Band Manager for the Massanutten Youth Brass Band.
